Poetry: Paula Meehan

The work of Paula Meehan is frequently cited in A Companion to Contemporary British and Irish Poetry, 1960-2015, edited by Wolfgang Görtschacher and David Malcolm (Wiley-Blackwell, 2020). We discuss the poetry and drama of this outstanding author, one of the most famous of contemporary Irish poets, winner of almost innumerable prizes, in our classes. This meeting is organized with the assistance of the Embassy of Ireland in Poland.

Paula Meehan

Paula Meehan was born & reared in Dublin where she still lives. She studied at Trinity College and at Eastern Washington University. „As If By Magic: Selected Poems”, which collects work from over thirty years of poetry making was published in October 2020 by Dedalus Press, Dublin, & by Wake Forest University Press, North Carolina in spring of 2021. Her books have garnered both popular and critical acclaim in Ireland and internationally. She has received many awards and been translated into many languages. She was honoured with election to Aosdána in 1996. She was Ireland Professor of Poetry from 2013 to 2016; „Imaginary Bonnets with Real Bees in Them”, published by UCD Press, collects her public lectures from that time.

She attached two images of new book „As If By Magic: Selected Poems” in the North American edition, Wake Forest University Press, 2021 & the Irish edition, Dedalus Press, 2020.
