Song of the Goat Theatre

We welcomed the Song of the Goat Theater from Wrocław at the 2019 Festival, when on the Small Stage of the Wybrzeże Theatre we presented The Cassandra Report, and also organized short drama workshops. Last year, during the first virtual Festival, we showed a recording of a performance of Island, inspired by Shakespeare’s The Tempest. The Song of the Goat Theatre also took part in the programme Between.Edukacja: Kosmopolis 2020, and the work of Grzegorz Bral is part of Tomasz Wiśniewski’s research.

“Anty-Gone” – the second part of a triptych

One of the largest projects by Song of the Goat Theatre. Thirty actors from all over the world meet on the stage. Seven Gates of Thebes, Anty-Gone and Ecstasy – three theatrical visions, three points of view, three autonomous performances connected by the common denominator centred around “Anty-Gone” – the masterpiece by Sophocles. The authors reinterpret, analyse and comment on the Greek text with the use of words, music, contemporary dance and movement.

In the second part – Anty-Gone – the audience can see the point of view of the title character, a woman fighting for her rights and struggling with social hierarchy who holds on to her ambitions until the end. Antigone, who guards spirituality, loses the struggle with materialism. The performance is built of more than ten polyphonic songs, sang by an international group of vocalists and enriched by the sound of the cello. They correspond with the language of contemporary dance performed by world-class dancers led by the eminent French choreographer, Melanie Lomoff.
